Stagecoach house, Sussex Corner, also known as McMonagle Inn and The Posting House, was built

Formation of the Sussex and Studholm Agricultural Society, the oldest agricultural society in the world.

George Leonard's landmark home, Rosemount, destroyed by fire

Landmark Sussex home, the Knoll, constructed on Church Avenue. It was once the social centre of the community, and was eventually torn down in 1962.

Milton Fowler Gregg, M.C., R. Can. Regt., Nova Scotia R. - rallies his men during the Battle of the Canal du Nord in France under heavy fire. His courageous acts that day earn him the Victoria Cross.

Adventurer David Hempleman-Adams, 50, launched his world-record flight from Sussex in the smallest open hot air balloon to cross the Atlantic. He and his Rozière balloon safely covered the 2100 mile / 3379 km to land near Blackpool, England, 83 hours after he left Canadian shores.
